Work-Study Programs
The Butte College Career Center offers three types of Work-Study that assists students
in obtaining paid employment by subsidizing their wages.

Federal Work-Study
Federal Work-Study is a Financial Aid Program that allows students to earn money based on their financial need.
Federal Work-Study allows students to work on campus, or for nonprofit or government agencies providing
community service. This program pays 100% of a students wages but is limited to minimum
wage. (Students may work up to 20 hours per week while school is in session and up
to 39 hours per week during regular academic breaks.
ButteWorks
ButteWorks is a work-study program for eligible CalWORKs students
ButteWORKs Work-Study allows students to work on or off campus in a field related to their major. This
program reimburses the employer a percentage of the student's wages. Reimbursement
rates are up to 75% for both for-profit and non-profit organizations.
FAQs
Simply bring your Financial Aid Offer Letter to the Career Center near the end of
July or later and our staff will determine if you qualify and assist you in finding
an appropriate job. (Awards are given for the entire school year and Federal Work-Study
funds are usually depleted quickly). This infographic can help.
Yes! If you have applied for Financial Aid, but were denied, you are more than likely
not eligible for Federal Work-Study, however you may still benefit from the the job
board, resume critiques, mock interviews, and a variety of other individual services
that are offered by our department.
Yes, in fact a majority of students working on campus are not involved in the Work-Study
programs.
EOPS Work-Study
EOPS work-study is a program for EOPS students
EOPS Work-Study allows EOPS students to work on campus and earn up to $1800 per semester. Students
must be referrred by an EOPS counselor.
